Cosy Cotton

Dutch Cosy Cotton blues band features fantastic Grana Louise from the US once again

One of last year’s numerous top acts of the Caribbean Sea Jazz Festival was undoubtedly the Cosy Cotton blues band. An ecstatic audience kept on cheering them after their spectacular performance on the main stage in front of  Cas di Cultura’s entrance. And guess what: they are back with more blues for more applause.

The four members of the Cosy Cotton blues band are thrilled that internationally acclaimed singer, songwriter and music producer Grana Louise will be belting out her songs together with them again. Alexander van Merten (drums), Boudy Loogman (bass guitar) and Bert Devies (guitar) are the original members of the 1980’s band, which used to feature singer Wendy Sheridan. Now, more than 26 years later three of the band’s musicians got together for a blues revival show in Holland and the bug bit again! Together with Hammond organ and piano player Joeko Dietrich they form once again the Cosy Cotton blues band. Rave reviews accompany the performances of the group, which takes its audience on a musical trip through the southern states of America, culminating in the cotton fields of Louisiana.

The story of Cosy Cotton goes back to 1986 when the band played at blues and jazz festivals, first as a warm-up act, but later playing with big names like BB King, Ray Charles, Robert Cray, the Blues Brothers and Chaka Kahn. The CD that was recorded was hugely successful as well. But in 1993 the members of Cosy Cotton decided to venture out into the real world, starting businesses and getting families of their own and the band broke up. Two years ago, however, Bert, Boudy and Alexander got together again and the magic was back full blast to the joy of the former group’s faithful fans. Together with singer Grana Louise and her powerful, awesome voice Cosy Cotton is soaring once again. Welcome to the Caribbean Sea Jazz Festival 2010, Cosy Cotton!
